I am now offering a new therapy called Auditory Integration Training or AIT. I first heard about this therapy from parents who raved about it and also told me that it was hard to find in the Houston area.

The headlines have been everywhere and it seems that we are back in the dark days of vitamin bashing, perhaps prompted by reports that even in these hard economic times vitamin sales are booming. As in the past, for every negative study on vitamins there are many positive ones, except that only the research with negative findings gets reported, no matter how poorly designed or unreliable it is! Among the latest news you may have heard or read about, vitamin E was supposedly found to cause prostate cancer. As simple as that, or maybe not…
Let’s take a closer look at the data that prompted this “finding.” (1) When taking low-quality synthetic vitamin E or a placebo, the risk of prostate cancer was found to be higher in people taking vitamin E with no other supplement by an astounding 0.63%! Whenever the difference is less than 1% it is hard to attribute much significance to it, because any study done on a sample of the population will have a margin of error. To conclude that vitamin E causes prostate cancer based on a 0.63% rate increase in a single study is preposterous.
There is more. In this very same study, when people took Vitamin E plus Selenium the increased risk fell to just 0.24%. Selenium does only one thing: it makes vitamin E more effective. So if vitamin E causes cancer, the rate should go up, not down, when it is taken with selenium. In reality, it has been common knowledge for years that antioxidants like vitamin E should not be taken alone but in a balanced complex containing all the major antioxidants. Glutathione is a peptide or small protein that the body makes to protect itself from free radicals, oxidative stress and the harmful effects of environmental toxins. Oxidative stress refers to damage at the level of DNA and other cell structures resulting from exposure to free radicals or toxins. This damage is often where critical illnesses like cancer or heart disease originate.
Glutathione is considered to be the most powerful antioxidant in the body. It is also a detoxifier in that it binds to toxic metals or cancer-causing chemicals and safely “escorts” them out of the body. The efficiency of detoxification depends to a large degree on how much glutathione is available , and glutathione levels vary dramatically from person to person.
One cause of this variability is a difference in genetic traits. Genetic variants determine how much glutathione will be produced in a given individual and the difference is dramatic. Even under optimal conditions glutathione produced in one person can be half as much as in someone else (Richie et al, Clin Chem 42:64, 1996). Research is now showing that people with a gene variant named GAG-7 who produce the least glutathione have a higher rate of cancer (research presented at a recent conference by John P. A few months ago as I was researching something online I came across a product called Enterosgel that is associated with intestinal health and recovery from leaky gut. Leaky gut is a condition where the lining of the intestine is damaged and becomes excessively porous, allowing partly digested protein and bacterial toxins to seep into general circulation. Enterosgel is a completely natural product made from organic silica. It has a chemical structure that resembles that of a sponge and, when taken by mouth, is not absorbed but travels down the intestinal tract and removes a wide range of toxins from the body. It comes in a gel that is pressed out of a tube resembling a large toothpaste tube. Once in water or other liquid, it readily dissolves and has little or no taste.

This scenario plays itself out on a daily basis: women are administered a bone density test and found to have some degree of bone loss labeled osteopenia in milder cases or osteoporosis in more severe ones. They are then prescribed one of several drugs known as bisphosphonates that include Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, and a few others. At the same time they are instructed to take large daily doses of calcium.
The drugs do work. When repeated, bone density tests show improvement. WebMD tells us how they work: they “slow or stop the natural process that dissolves bone tissue, resulting in maintained or increased bone density.”
Stopping the bones from dissolving might seem like just the right thing to do , except that these natural processes are essential for bone tissue to remain healthy. Proton Pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a class of medications that include Prilosec, Zantac and others now available over the counter or by prescription mostly to control the symptoms of reflux.
Many years ago I attended a lecture by Leo Galland, MD, a gastroenterologist turned holistic doctor and author of the excellent book entitled “The Four Pillars of Healing.” His position was that, when considering benefits versus adverse effects, there are no drugs that are worse than PPIs. According to Dr. Galland, reflux is always a result of undetected food allergy, improper diet, or yeast overgrowth. Change the diet and the problem is gone, but taking PPIs only masks the symptoms.
A new German study finally supports Dr. Galland’s views. As stated by the study’s authors: “until recently PPIs were regarded as very safe and associated with very few side effects.” However, it is now apparent that PPIs cause all sorts of adverse health effects such as:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup melted butter or ghee
6 Tablespoons carob powder
½ cup honey
2 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup quinoa flour (Can substitute other GF flours)
2 teaspoons vanilla [optional]
1 cup chopped walnuts
How to make it:
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
Mix the honey, ghee, egg whites salt, and vanilla together.
Add the carob powder.
Mix in the flour and then the walnuts.
Put the mixture into a non-stick 8′ x 8′ pan (or use nonstick spray).
Bake for 30 – 35 minutes.
Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Read More »
